Still Watching the North

Wednesday. It is nearly the end of June, which is the end of the first half of the year, which is when the Brisbane castle was meant to rise. I have been sitting on a hill facing north for a week.

I have not seen it. In fairness, the hill is in Perth, and Brisbane is quite a long way off. Crumpet says I should go and look. Crumpet does not pay for my flights.

What I do know is this: whenever it opens, it will be the same old story. The Headmaster’s sanctum, the formula, the students, the hour. A third set of walls for me to stand outside, and a third gate with a notice on it I shall have to read.

If any reader in Brisbane sees a castle going up, please don’t tell me. I would rather be surprised. I would rather, actually, be immortal, but surprised will do for now.
