Lockers Before Lectures
Wednesday night. A first-year tried to take a photograph of me today. I do not object to being photographed; I photograph extremely well. But the rule is the rule, and the rule is that nothing that records goes into the lecture hall.
Phones, smartwatches, cameras: into the lockers they go, and the lockers cost nothing. The Professor would approve. He has always said that a student looking at a screen is a student not looking at the blackboard, and he says it at length.
Arrive a quarter of an hour early, the gamesmasters tell every class, so there is time to stow your things and hear the briefing before the bell. Those who arrive with a minute to spare spend their first five minutes in the lecture hall out of breath.
Grown-ups who have been drinking anything stronger than tea are turned away at the door. I have never seen it happen. I have heard about it. Owls hear everything.
